Reducing emissions and waste in our operations

FXI strives to reduce emissions and waste from production by shifting to renewable and carbon-free energy as part of an ongoing effort to improve energy, process, and resource efficiency.

• Renewable energy: FXI purchases 20% of electricity from renewable resources with a goal to achieve 100% renewable electricity.

• Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: FXI anticipates setting a science-based emissions reduction target by 2024 for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. We recently completed our GHG emissions inventory for all Scopes and are in the process of developing a low-carbon transition plan to support target-setting efforts.

• Other air emissions: FXI is the only US foam producer to use VPF foaming technology to safely capture and remove VOCs. What’s more, all bedding and furniture plants pour low emission CertiPUR-US foams with no heavy metals or ozone depleting substances.

• Production waste: FXI recycles or repurposes foam from our factories. As of August 2023, nearly 25 million pounds of scrap material was diverted from landfills and reused by carpet pad manufacturers or for pillow fill at our own facilities.

Enhancing the circularity of our value chain

We aim to make our value chain more circular by minimizing the environmental impact of our production and transportation. By harnessing FXI’s regional expertise and strategically located capabilities, our customers experience improved service, delivery timing, and realized freight savings. Our plants are located across North America to source materials locally and reduce the distance to our customers. We use compression technology to fit more products in less space, saving fuel and emissions.

How we reduce transport emissions:

• Our plants are close to suppliers and customers, cutting down transport miles, costs, and emissions

• We compress our mattress-in-a-box and other bedding products up to 92%, shrinking the cube space by 10x in trucks

• We fit more products on a pallet, for example increasing from 9 to 12 mattresses in our 8” program

Shifting to more sustainable raw materials

FXI is developing new solutions to meet the growing demand for more eco-friendly products and applications. We consider recycled and renewable materials in every step of our production process for our retail mattresses, from foam making to cover, component, and packaging selection.

Caring for our people and the community

FXI is a company that cares about the well-being of our people and the communities in which we operate. We provide mattresses, toppers, and pillows to help families in need. We also donate product samples that would otherwise end up in landfills, reducing waste and supporting local communities. We are proud to share our products and our values with those who can benefit from them.
